I learned about the incredible benefits to Raw honey when I went to visit my friend’s bee hives on the big Island of Hawai’i. As I walked in to the honey filtering room all teh ladies had glistening faces covered with honey ad they were straining teh raw honey through fine pantyhose, ha! It was quite a site. Here I learned, never should honey be taken to a higher temperature than the bee hive itself, 91F and honey had been used for centuries for wellness and especially for skin care. We know of the incredible medical benefits on scar repair and wound healing.
Manuka honey especially has natural antibacterial properties due to hydrogen peroxide methylglyoxal, which helps prevent infections in wounds. Honey also reduces inflammation, promotes tissue growth and has moisture retentive properties which is why it has such a wonderful impact on your skin.
I have adopted a weekly honey skin care ritual weekly to help retain moisture in my skin keeping it hydrated and soft which allows for less fine lines to show.
In Ancient Egypt honey was a key ingredient in beauty rituals as they believed it to preserve youthfulness and reduce wrinkles due to its antioxidants. They had an advanced understanding of honey’s health and cosmetic benefits and therefore, it was part of their daily ritualistic practices.
Here are some of my favorite ways to use honey for skin care….
Honey Honey Face mask: Apply a thin layer of honey to clean, dry skin and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. For variations, mix honey with yogurt, oatmeal, or clay for a kitchen crafted mask.
Honey Face wash: This is my favorite skin cleanser DIY of all. Honey works really well to remove dirt, makeup and impurities without stripping the skin’s natural oil. Cleopatra’s legendary beauty and soft skin have been celebrated for centuries, and her beauty rituals almost always included the use of honey. She famously used a combination of natural ingredients like honey, milk, and various oils in her skincare routine, taking advantage of their moisturizing, exfoliating, and nourishing properties.
Very simply, apply honey to damp skin and massage in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Pat dry with my favorite Clean Towels XL™
A great tip: Try leaving honey on your face overnight to give it more time to do its magic, exfoliate and soften the skin.
Sweet Dreams!
